['seɲeri], Paolo, der Ältere, italienischer katholischer Theologe und Prediger, * Nettuno (bei Latina) 22. 3. 1624, ✝ Rom 9. 12. 1694; Jesuit; hatte mit seinem Missionsstil, einer Kombination aus Predigt, dramatischen Darstellungen, Bußprozessionen und Geißelungen, großen Erfolg in der italienischen Volksmission (Lombardei, Toskana, Emilia). Segneri verfasste u. a. ein Werk gegen den Quietismus des M. de Molinos (»Concordia tra la fatica e la quiete nell'orazione«; 1680) und gilt wegen seines Sprachstils als Klassiker des italienischen Barock.
